Idea generation for an essay topic can be challenging for many IELTS test takers. Even though the prompts are designed in a way that don’t require special knowledge about the topic, some test takers still find themselves stuck before they start drafting. There are two main solutions for this.
Generating ideas by asking WH-questions
The human brain is designed to find answers. The only thing you need to do is ask the right question, and then ideas will start coming to you. You do the same to extend the idea and develop your main body paragraphs as well. I’ve explained this in detail in the video down below.
Reasearch the challenging topics
If you have some time before your test, you can do some research about the topics you’re not so familiar with. If you scroll down this article, you’ll see an extensive list of ideas and some example prompts for each. I’ve also generated a few relevant keywords for each so you can use to do some research looking at the topic from different angles. This will not only help your with your general knowledge and faster idea generation, but it will also help you learn vocaulary items naturally in context. Watch the following video to see how you can do this properly in your IELTS preparation phase.
